Learn about key initiatives that marked our ESG journey in 2024.
Environmental
Ambiental
We invested in solutions to protect the environment and promote the responsible use of natural resources. Here are some highlights in this area:
-
Cooking Oil Disposal Program: We collected and properly disposed of 466 liters of used vegetable oil, preventing the contamination of approximately 11 million liters of water.
-
Waste reuse: We transformed more than 260 metric tons of sludge into organic compost and sent 504 tons of sludge to ceramic manufacturers, boosting the circular economy.
-
Responsible waste disposal: The proportion of waste sent for sustainable treatment, such as composting and recycling, rose from 14% to 37%.
-
Opening of group’s first solar farm: We took a major step toward cleaner and more sustainable operations by opening our solar farm in Seropédica.
-
Reduction in electricity consumption: Thanks to our energy efficiency initiatives, our power consumption fell 9,397.55 GJ in proportional terms.
Social
Social
We brought health, inclusion and quality of life to thousands of people through initiatives focused on citizenship, education and income generation:
-
“Social Tariff” subsidy scheme: The “Social Tariff” subsidy scheme expanded considerably in the municipalities in our concession area, and it now benefits over 180,000 households (more than 20% of all households served).
-
Social and Environmental Program: We invested in environmental education and citizenship initiatives in schools and communities, raising the awareness of more than 2,600 people, including children, young people and adults.
-
Diversity: We exceeded our initial targets for management diversity, as 37% of management positions are now held by black and mixed-race people, while 34% are held by women.
-
Supplier assessment: During the year, new suppliers were selected based on social and environmental criteria. We conducted due diligence with a specific scope to mitigate risks related to illegal labor practices, such as child, forced and slave-like labor.
-
Growth of Rio Neighborhood Program: This initiative was created to listen to the demands of the population and answer questions about the services provided. In 2024, we held 34 meetings involving 1,233 people in all, promoting the active participation of residents in the search for joint solutions and bringing the company even closer to local circumstances.
Governance
Governança
We reinforced our culture of integrity through structured actions to ensure ethics, transparency and accountability:
-
Compliance training: We provided this training to members of governance bodies and executives, focusing on ethics, anti-corruption measures and diversity.
-
Strengthening of governance, risks and compliance structure: We created a new target management app and set up strategic committees to anticipate risks and enhance transparency.
-
Active senior governance: Our advisory committees met every month to analyze risks and propose corrective and preventive measures.
-
Risk mapping: We made significant progress in mapping risks and identifying imbalances in our concession contract, based on the experience gained in the first two years.
